Frequently Asked Questions

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil contains two essential fatty acids, Omega-6 and Omega-3, which we must obtain through our diet. Unlike other sources of these essential fatty acids, hemp seed oil provides an ideal 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3, plus anti-inflammatory Omega-9 to support healthy joints, blood pressure, cholesterol, hormone levels, and heart and brain health.

Take up to 1 tablespoon per day either straight from the spoon, or drizzled over cooked meals and salads, or added to smoothies.

It is best to avoid cooking with hemp seed oil due to its low smoke point. High temperatures can cause the degradation of Omega-3 fatty acids, leading to a loss of their nutritional value.

Gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) present in hemp seed oil has been shown to help reduce inflammation. You can apply hemp seed oil directly to the painful area for natural pain relief.

Hemp seeds do not contain THC or CBD which are known to have medicinal or psychoactive effects. The only part of the hemp plant that can be used for food is the seeds, as other parts of the hemp plant (eg, leaves and flowers) contain THC and CBD.

(THC is a psychoactive substance found in cannabis plants. CBD is a substance found in cannabis that has potential therapeutic value, with little or no psychoactive properties.)

Hemp Seed Oil Capsules

Each product contains 100% pure NZ grown Hemp seed oil. The difference comes down to individual use, if you would prefer the versatility of the bottled hemp seed oil, or the convenience of a capsule.

For omega supplementation and general wellbeing, we suggest 2-3 capsules per day. For those suffering from inflammation related issues, we suggest 4-6 capsules per day depending on the severity of your discomfort.

Hemp seed oil is a rich source of essential fatty acids and other nutrients that support cognitive and visual development, and even help manage skin conditions like eczema. Capsules however, can be a choking hazard for young children.

The FDA completed an evaluation of hemp seed-derived food ingredients and found that they did not raise concerns for any group, including pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

Hemp seed oil is a Dietary Supplement and not a Medicine. Research recommends using omega-3 fatty acid supplements, such as hemp seed oil, along with blood pressure medicine to lower blood pressure.

Side effects can occur when hemp seed oil is taken in combination with medications that are metabolized by the liver such as warfarin. It is always best to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any new supplements or medicines.

Hemp Seed Hearts

Hemp hearts are simply the soft inner part of hemp seeds once they have been unshelled. Hemp hearts are considered a complete protein and a superfood. They include all essential amino acids, that are the building blocks for protein in our bodies. Since hemp hearts are easily digested, you will get the maximum absorption for your body to utilize!

Hemp Hearts are the perfect nutritional boost to any meal! Sprinkle Hemp hearts on salads, cereal, or yogurt. Blend into smoothies or add to baking.

Hemp hearts have a mild earthy and nutty taste and are creamy in texture.

Once opened, re-seal entirely after each serve. Hemp seeds are best kept refrigerated to extend shelf life where they will last for up to 12 months. If you have no fridge space, store hemp seeds in your pantry at room temperature and consume them within 90 days of opening.

Hemp Seed Protein

Hemp protein is a sustainable plant-based protein packed with dietary fibre, which plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy digestive system. The high fibre content in hemp protein acts as a prebiotic, providing nourishment for beneficial bacteria in your gut. A flourishing gut microbiome can lead to improved digestion, enhanced nutrient absorption, and a stronger immune system. Hemp protein is highly digestible and gentle on sensitive stomachs. Unlike some other protein sources, it doesn't cause bloating or discomfort. It's a fantastic option for those with food sensitivities or digestive issues.

Our Hemp protein powder is unflavoured and has a natural earthy flavour.

Because our hemp protein is 100% pure containing no additives, it’s best used for cooking, baking, and blending with other ingredients.

Animal products, such as whey protein, contain all of the essential amino acids and are known as ‘complete’ protein. Many plant-based proteins lack at least one of the essential amino acids and are considered ‘incomplete’ proteins.  Hemp Protein however does contain all nine essential amino acids and over 20 individual amino acids including all branch chained amino acids.  In addition to being a complete protein, hemp protein also contains branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), namely leucine, isoleucine and valine.
